"Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it." - Hebrews 13:2 NIV
The hospital room was quiet as Natalie contemplated her operation scheduled for the next day. She was new in town and felt alone, which was adding to her fear. Sleep would not come, and the night dragged along. The quietness of the room closed in on her.
She was ready to cry when she heard the creaking of the door. "Hi," a woman with a kind face said. "Are you lonely?"
"I sure am," Natalie replied.
"I'm a nursing student. I've caught up on all my paperwork. Do you feel like talking?" she asked.
"I sure do," Natalie replied gratefully. The compassion in the student's eyes comforted Natalie as their conversation soon turned to God and His amazing grace. Slowly, the heavy burden of fear in Natalie's heart begins to lift. After a couple of hours, she finally drifted off to sleep and the student quietly left the room. The next morning, Natalie asked the about the student nurse, but no one on the new shift had a clue as to her identity.
What had started out as one of the darkest nights of her life ended in peaceful contentment and sweet dreams, thanks to a young person with a kind heart. Whether the student was a celestial angel or an earthly angel of mercy, she was an angel in deed. She brought peace to Natalie's heart and joy to her soul. Isn't that what God sends His angels to do?
