This is an incredible work of art that I was fortunate enough to see in person, at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri, in the late 1990s. From what I can remember, it is carved entirely from a single piece of ivory. I’ve linked to some related information below the picture.
