- 1 Kings 19:9
- Elijah just experience a tremendous victory over the prophets of Baal. He not only experienced it, but he was smack dab in the middle of it! Yet, Elijah was suddenly, tremendously depressed.
- Many times, we experience a down time after great victories or experiences.
- v.3-4 - The threat comes and Elijah is ready to give up and die. He has "had enough."
- His "throw in the towel" response seems to be based on feelings and emotions. That's the great thing about God - He goes beyond our feelings and emotions.
- v.6 - We need to realize that God bakes a good cake! He will provide exactly what we need for the journey that lies ahead. For Elijah, that meant food, water, and rest.
- Many times we need to pull back and take in what we need.
- v.10 - Elijah was blaming himself for all the problems around him. He was feeling abandoned and like he was a failure.
- Elijah seeemed to be saying that no matter how hard he fought or how many battles he won, it wasn't enough, and he was tired of trying. We get to that point alse.
- But, God gave Elijah something else he needed - an attitude adjustment and a new perspective. He will do the same for us.
- God's still, small voice is louder than winds, earthquakes, and fires. God's still, small voice is just the reminder and reassurance that Elijah needed - and it's what we need too. Too many times though, we don't take time to listen. We keep struggling and burning ourselves out.
- v.15 - "Go..."
- v.19 - "So Elijah went..." So must we.
- God knows how to deal with our "Jezebels--" every sigle one of them.
- So the next time you're feeling run down, burnt out, or like you can't take one more step, visit the cave, have some cake, and listen.
