- Hebrews 3
- Doubt and disbelieving God's Word leads to a hardened heart.
- What causes a hardened heart?
- Delay (v.7): It is an urgent decision. It must not be put off.
- Going astray (v.10)
- Unbelief (v.12): God does require faith.
- Deceitfulness of sin (v.13): Sin has a way of convincing us this sin itself isn't as serious as it really is. It works to convince us that we are "good enough." It's not that big of a deal. I'm not as bad as that other person over there...
- Consequences of the hardened heart: The judgement of God (v.17) and missing out on the promised rest (v.18).
- We all live by faith (some kind of faith) whether we realize it or not. The question is -- who do we have faith in?
- Cures for the hardened heart:
- Hear the Word of God (v.15).
- Believe it (or the hearing isn't worth anything).
- Obey it (or the believing isn't worth anything).
- Share it (v.13).
