- Jeremiah 1:4-8
- He "set us apart" (or sanctified) for a specific purpose.
- Our excuses do not interest God. He knows us better than we know ourselves. We only think we know ourselves well. Only the Creator knows the true potential and fullness of His creation.
- We're more willing to make excuses instead of just listening and following after Him.
- God never gets "off the subject" no matter how hard we try to change it.
- At this time, there was an abundance of so called priests-- many were false. They were appointed by King Mannasseh.
- It was an incredibly wicked time. King Amon was worse, but he was assassinated 2 years into his reign.
- Josiah, Amon's son, took over when he was only 8. Josiah turned to God when he was around 16 years old.
- As Josiah was working to "cleanse" his kingdom, God was calling Jeremiah.
- There's no greater job security than listening to God's call and following it.
- Jeremiah was gifted as a writer. God was calling him to the position that God had selected for him.
- Jeremiah didn't want to play that position though. He wanted to choose his own position.
- The key is that Jeremiah called God, "Lord." Jeremiah new that he was the servant. The servant follows the master, no matter what, even to the point of death, because the servant knows the master can be trusted. If you don't trust your master, you can't really be a true servant.
- The cool part is that we're not responsible for doing God's work. We couldn't do it even if we tried to (and we would fail miserably anyway). God will take care of the things He needs to take care of.
- God doesn't call us to reach some goal. He calls us to be obedient. This is the key to success with God.
- According to the numbers, Jeremiah would not be considered a "successful" prophet. He was obedient, though, and his obedience made him a success with God.
- It's not wrong to admit our weaknesses because in our weakness, God's strength shows through.
- It's not wrong to be honest with God either, but let Him have the final say.
- Take God into battle with you.
- We can't always measure success the way the world measures success. God views success in a whole different way. We must continue to trust Him more and more, every day of our life.
