- 1 Thessalonians 1
- How did you receive the Gospel?
- v. 2-6 - "mind renewal" comes with repentance.
- tribulation and trouble are a natural part of repentance. The world will tend to fight repentance because of selfishness.
- Praise God for hard situations because you couldn't get through them without Him and His help. He demonstrates His power in our weakness.
- What have you done with the Gospel?
- v. 3, 7-8 - Are we good examples?
- We all labor, toil, and work for something. As Christians, what are we working towards? What are we doing? Are we steadfast (meaning consistent, insistent, persistent, and resistant)?
- What has the Gospel done for you?
- v. 9-10 - an explanation of hope.
- Our hope is in the second coming of Jesus Christ and in spending eternity with Him.
- There is now therefore, no condemnation for those who believe-- what an awesome promise!
- Where are all the Christians who would say, "Do as I do, because I do as Christ does? Follow me because I know where I'm going."
- Too many times we Christians say, "Do as I say, not as I do." We're really good at focusing on other people's sin and sliding our own sin off to the side-- and we're wrong for doing that.
