- John 12:1-8
- According to Matthew, they were going to the home of Simon the Leper (former leper).
- Martha was here serving (at other times in Scripture, we see her complaining about serving, but now she seems to have learned the joy of serving).
- Mary gave oil (worth a years wage)-- something very valuable and she gave herself. She seems unaware of those around her. She didn't let another opinion control her or alter what she knew she wanted (or needed) to do.
- Judas' suggestion was a criticism. It sounded like a good suggestion-- he felt like the oil was wasted.
- Nothing is ever wasted on God. He will always use a gift of love.
- It was a gift of extravagant love for the Lord.
- Maybe, Mary didn't even know why she really did this until after the fact. We don't always need an explanation from God.
- We aren't to tell God how to use the gift either and we shouldn't be disappointed in how things turn out. The key is that we gave a gift of love to the Lord. How He uses it is up to Him.
- The funny part is, when we give a love gift to God, we get blessed too.
- We serve Christ by serving others in His name and with His attitude, mind, and spirit.
- It's time to start breaking vases.
