Impossible Commandments

1 Thessalonians 5:16-17
v.16 - Rejoicing always.
- Jesus + Nothing = Everything
- We tend to try to other things to Him thinking the "extras" will make us happy.
v.17 - Praying Always.
- Think of it as "practicing the awareness of Christ" -- or realizing that He really is with you always.
- Not "me," but "we."
What is needed from me?
- Obedience
- Committment
- Deep prayer
- Seriousness
- Willingness
We have lived so long with sub-normal Christianity, that when we see normal Christianity, we think it's abnormal.
"Take up your cross" -- When someone carried their cross, they were on their way to their own death-- that's the only thing a cross was used for back then. We need to do the same (put our sinful nature to death and keep it "buried.")
